An overview of the top AL and NL pitchers by pitch count

I am back from vacation and was looking at my stats from Word Press recently, and it seems like the biggest hits I get are from posts about pitch counts for MLB pitchers, and in particular with Stephen Strasburg.  Well, let’s add to our hit total!  Here are Bias Free Sports top 30 pitchers in the AL and NL ranked in order by their total pitch count.  You can see that Stephen Strasburg is only the 45th highest ranked pitcher when it comes to total pitches (“TP”) while averaging under 95 pitches a game (“p/Gm”). Some of the numbers would be misleading, however.  Justin Verlander leads all pitchers in pitch count, but he also leads in innings pitched (190 innings compared to 187 for Felix Hernandez).  But comparing Verlander to Hernandez is interesting, because Hernandez has about 250 less pitches than Verlander in 3 less innings.  That is an amazing number.  To see the TP for all the top pitchers in the NL and AL, go to www.biasfreerankings.com/mlbplayerratings.htm.
